Margaret Duncan (usually called Maggie or Mag) is a freshman at Fairgrove university doing a double major in social work and psychology, with the intent of eventually becoming a counsellor for street kids. Having come from a fairly rough background on the streets herself, before going back to school, she understands that life and wants to be able to help others who are she was just a few years ago. But learning to fit among "normal" people is a bit of an adjustment.
Morag Dearg ("red Morag" in Gaelic) is a redcap wilder. Being seelie, she's a virtual outcast from her own kith, but while her interactions with other fae have been few so far (and mostly not pleasant), she does know enough not to expect to be welcomed with open arms by any of the others. Though her Chrysalis was several years ago, she's still very new to kithain society in many ways, and a lot of what other fae take for granted, she's still learning.
Facing down pimps and drug dealers while armed with nothing but a cheap switchblade and an attitude -- that was easy. Making it in the straight world, figuring out how to be accepted by normal people and seelie fae -- now there's a real challenge!
Description
Mortal: Maggie is taller than average for a woman (about 5’9”), and has a stocky, muscular build. She's not pretty (appearance 1) -- she has a square face with a scattering of freckles and a slightly too-wide jaw, and you can tell her nose has been broken at least once, plus there's a scar across her left brow and cheekbone, narrowly missing her eye, from an old knife fight. Her red hair has recently been cut into a fairly fashionable style, but it looks a bit awkward on her -- as of the start of university, she's trying a little too hard to fit in and look "normal". She’s likely to be trying to dress very conservatively, at least initially -- later on, she may make peace with herself and develop her own style a bit more. With her build, she looks awkward and ungainly wearing feminine clothes -- she'd really be better off in jeans and a T-shirt.
Fae: Her mortal clothing style may have changed, but her voile hasn't: a heavy studded leather tunic and leggings, the colour of dried blood, heavy black boots, and, at least when expecting trouble, a formidable pair of gauntlets set with assorted sharp objects. (She'd probably like some less combative-looking voile, but at present wouldn't know how to go about finding or manifesting it - this is what she came into her Chrysalis with and this is what she still has.) Her build is even more solid and muscular than in her mortal form, her hair brightens to an almost blood-red, and her normally grey-green eyes are an eerie green like some sort of swamp phosphorescence. Her face, plain at the best of times, becomes decidedly inhuman, displaying an oversized mouth full of sharklike teeth.
